Steps for New International Students

Applying from outside the U.S.
Step 1
Apply
Submit the International Application.
Step 2
Submit Documents
Passport, transcripts, English proficiency (if needed), and financial proof.
Step 3
Receive I-20
We issue the I-20 after approval.
Step 4
Apply for Visa & Enroll
Pay SEVIS fee, schedule interview, then enroll.
Step 5
Arrive
Travel, check in, and register.

Documents to Submit

  • Passport copy
  • Official high school transcripts and secondary education, if applicable (translated if needed; NACES evaluation when required)
  • English proficiency (TOEFL) or waiver documentation
  • Affidavit of Support + proof of funds

We recommend submitting all required documentation at least 30 days before the semester begins to ensure adequate processing time and a smooth enrollment experience. Applications submitted after this timeframe may not be processed in time for the intended semester start.

English Proficiency

TOEFL minimum scores and requirements:
  • Paper: 500+
  • Computer-based: 173+
  • iBT: 61+
  • The scores must be sent to Mohave College officially from Educational Testing Service (ETS).
Waivers from a regionally accredited institution and earning at least a grade of C may apply for ENG 101/102 completion, four years at a U.S. high school, or citizenship in an English-official country.

Steps for Transfer-In Students

Currently in the U.S. on F-1 status
Step 1
Apply
Apply to Mohave College and submit documents.
Step 2
Get acceptance
Receive your acceptance letter.
Step 3
Request SEVIS transfer
Complete transfer-out with current school.
Step 4
New I-20
Mohave College issues your transfer-pending/active I-20.
Step 5
Register
Register after transfer is complete.

SEVIS Transfer Timeline

After you’re accepted, you’ll complete a transfer-out request with your current school and select a SEVIS release date.

Important: Your SEVIS record must transfer before the start of classes at Mohave College.

Steps for Transfer-Out Students

If you’re leaving Mohave College for another school, start with acceptance from the new institution.
Step 1
Apply
Apply to the new school and receive an acceptance letter.
Step 2
Submit documents
Submit your transfer-out request to Mohave College (transfer-out form, acceptance letter and requested release date).
Step 3
Receive I-20
On the SEVIS release date, your record transfers and your new school issues the new I-20.

Key Requirements

These are the most important requirements students need to understand at a glance.

Full-time
12 credits per semester in an approved program.
Online Limits
F-1: Max one online course per semester. M-1: No online courses.
Academic Standing
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Insurance
Required before the first day of classes (medical, repatriation and evacuation).

Financial Verification and Insurance

Clear examples of what we accept—so students can submit the right items the first time.

Financial Documentation

You must show proof of funds to cover tuition, fees, living expenses, books, and insurance for at least one academic year.

Acceptable Proof of Funds

  • Bank statement (student or sponsor)
  • Official bank letter on letterhead
  • Scholarship award letter
  • Government or employer sponsorship letter
  • Education loan approval letter

Document Requirements

  • Dated within the last 6 months
  • Shows the account holder’s name and available balance
  • In English or includes a certified translation

If using a sponsor, include an Affidavit of Support and the sponsor’s financial documents.

Health Insurance

All international students must maintain U.S. health insurance that includes medical coverage, repatriation, and medical evacuation.

Proof Requirement

Proof of insurance is required before the first day of classes. Mohave College does not offer a student insurance plan.
