Respiratory Care Practitioner
This 18-month program is designed to prepare students to be eligible to take the National Board for Respiratory Care Exams. This program includes traditional and remote learning opportunities, onsite and offsite clinical experiences, and simulation experiences with some of the best equipment available to the industry. Topics of fundamentals of respiratory care for adult, pediatric, and neonate patients are covered.

Program Admission Requirements
Requirements for acceptance to the Respiratory Care Practitioner Program include:
Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) version 7
- 62% or higher
- Must be taken in person and proctored
- Students must wait at least 30 days between attempts
- Schedule the TEAS test with the Testing Center
Minimum GPA of 3.0 on prerequisite courses. Pre-requisite courses used to calculate GPA (*)
- *MAT 101(or higher level math course with 4 credits or higher)
- *BIO 160 (BIO 201 and BIO 202 may be substituted for BIO 160)
- *HES 113
Co-requisite courses recommended before RES courses include:
- PSY 101
- ENG 101
- BIO 205
- COM 121

“The Mohave College, CoARC program #200682, AAS degree, at the Neal Campus Kingman location holds Provisional Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
This status signifies that a program with an Approval of Intent has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the Standards (through submission of an acceptable Provisional Accreditation Self-Study Report (PSSR) and any other documentation required by the CoARC, as well as satisfactory completion of an initial site visit), to be allowed to admit students. It is recognized as an accredited program by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), which provides enrolled students who complete the program with eligibility for the Respiratory Care Credentialing Examination(s). The program will remain on Provisional Accreditation until it achieves Continuing Accreditation.”

Program Goal
The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) Program’s goal is to prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs). The RCP program is currently on the Kingman campus, at our Detroit Avenue Center.

What is a Respiratory Care Practitioner?
A Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) is a healthcare professional with specialized training in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with respiratory disorders. RCPs often have a broader scope of practice, including more advanced diagnostic and therapeutic responsibilities, depending on their level of training and the regulations of their practicing region.
Where do Respiratory Care Practitioners work?
Most Respiratory Care Practitioners work in acute care hospitals. Other potential employers include Outpatient Clinics, Home Health Agencies, Pulmonary Rehabilitation facilities, and Sleep Disorder Centers.
Can I apply to the Respiratory Care Program if I have a criminal record?
The application process is open to all interested students. However, each individual state has the primary authority of approving or denying an RCP license application.
Do I need to pass an examination to be a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner?
Upon completion of the CoARC accredited Respiratory Care Program and conferral of the degree, the student is eligible to apply to the National Board for Respiratory Care for approval to take the necessary exams for licensure.
How long does it take to complete the Respiratory Care Program?
The Respiratory Care Program is an eighteen (18) month program.
What is the cost of the program?
In-State tuition: $6,720.00 (includes course fees of $900.00)
Estimated additional costs $1023.62 (includes fixed costs of clinical documents, estimated cost of clinical tests and books). Minimum Course Fee includes stethoscope, Clinical Pocket Guide, Bandage Shears, Lab Supplies, and Lindsay Jones test prep and study program.
Is financial aid available for the Respiratory Care Program?
Mohave College offers a comprehensive financial aid program to help students and their families meet their educational costs. Financial aid is designed to help to bridge the gap between the total cost of their education and the amount they are expected to contribute, as determined by the information provided on the FAFSA. Financial aid is awarded on a yearly basis. Students must reapply each year. Scholarships are available as well.
Do I have to take a TEAS exam?
Yes, the most recent version of the Test of Essential Academic Skill (TEAS 7) exam with in-person proctoring is required as part of the application. It cannot be waived. The minimum accepted score is a 62%. Test results are valid until a new version of the exam is released. Candidates may take the exam three times within an academic year (July 1 to June 30) with at least 30 days between attempts. Failure to cancel a testing appointment will count as an attempt. A study guide and other online resources can help you prepare for the test. Refer to Testing Services for more information.
Where will clinical rotations take place?
Currently, the Respiratory Care Program has affiliation and approval for clinical rotations at Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC), Western Arizona Regional Medical Center (WARMC), Havasu Regional Medical Center (HRMC), Valley View Medical Center (VVMC) and Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC).
Will travel be required for clinical rotations?
Clinical education is an essential component of the Respiratory Care Program. To ensure students gain the full range of required competencies—including adult critical care, neonatal care, emergency services, and specialty experiences—travel to assigned clinical sites may be required..
