The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program prepares you to become an essential member of the healthcare team, using state‑of‑the‑art ultrasound technology to produce images that aid in diagnosis and treatment. This program offers two specialized pathways: the General pathway, which encompasses extended abdominal, basic obstetric/gynecological, and vascular sonography, and the Cardiac pathway, which includes Adult Echocardiography and vascular sonography.

Important Program Information

Key Dates & Application Process

  • Application Period: January 2, 2026 – May 31, 2026
  • Enrollment: Begins in the Spring Semester (January) for a Fall start (August)

Admission Requirements

  • TEAS test: minimum score of 62
  • Prerequisites: BIO 160, MAT 101 (or higher), PHY 107
    • Prerequisite coursework: minimum grade of B
    • All required prerequisite courses must be completed by the application period end date

General Sonography Pathway

  • Duration: 24 months
  • Location: On-ground, Bullhead City Campus

Cardiac Sonography (Echocardiography) Pathway

  • Duration: 20 months
  • Format: Hybrid (online theory + on-ground labs), Bullhead City Campus

Clinical Rotations
Clinical experiences are an integral part of your training. Sites may include Bullhead City, Fort Mohave, Lake Havasu City, Kingman, Parker, Flagstaff, and additional locations as partnerships grow.

Career and Certification

Upon graduation from the General Sonography Pathway, you’ll be eligible to sit for the national registry exams through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Abdominal (AB) or Vascular Technology (VT) concentrations, or the ARRT Sonography exam. Upon graduation from the Cardiac Sonography Pathway, you’ll be eligible to sit for the registry exams through Cardiac Credentialing International (CCI) in Adult Echocardiography. Frequently Asked Questions

Are there different admissions requirements for the two pathways?

No. Both the General Pathway (AAS Diagnostic Medical Sonography) and the Cardiac Pathway (AAS Diagnostic Medical Sonography – Cardiac) have the same admission requirements and selection criteria.

What are the minimum GPA requirements?

A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA is required. In addition, all prerequisite courses have minimum grade requirements.

Is there a minimum grade required for each prerequisite course?

Yes. A grade of B or higher is required in PHY 107, BIO 160, and MAT 101.

Are clinical hours required? If so, how many?

Yes.
• Cardiac Pathway: 800 clinical hours
• General Sonography Pathway: 1,080 clinical hours
Clinical hours are completed in supervised clinical education settings and are required for program completion.

Will I need to travel for my clinical rotations? If so, where?

Yes. Students should expect to travel for clinical education. Clinical sites are located in:
• Bullhead City
• Fort Mohave
• Lake Havasu City
• Kingman
• Parker
• Flagstaff
• St. George, Utah
Clinical placement is based on availability and program needs.

How can I prepare for the TEAS exam?

Preparation resources are available through the Mohave College Testing Center. More information can be found at:

Can I use remote proctoring for the TEAS exam?

No. Only in-person, proctored TEAS exams are accepted.

Can I save my application before submitting it?

Yes. The application may be saved and completed at a later time before submission.

I am having trouble uploading documents to the application. What should I do?

What kind of work experience is accepted for application bonus points?

Applicants currently employed in a medical setting (such as a physician’s office or hospital) with at least one year of work experience may submit a letter from their employer to be considered for additional application points.

When will I be notified of my application decision?

Final admission decisions are made after the May 31 application deadline and once summer grades have posted. Applicants can expect notification by July 15.

What does the program cost?

Is the DMS program eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition rate?

Yes, the program is eligible for WUE tuition rates.

What is the program’s accreditation status?

Mohave College plans to apply for CAAHEP accreditation once the first cohort enters the clinical education phase of the program.

What is the program length, and is it full-time, part-time, or hybrid?
