Frequently Asked Questions

What is an RQI CPR Station?

A Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) station is a designated area equipped with technology and mannequins to facilitate high-quality, hands-on CPR practice for healthcare providers. The station typically includes equipment for performing CPR, as well as a feedback system that provides real-time performance metrics such as compression depth, rate, and hand position.

Who is eligible to use an RQI CPR station?

RQI CPR stations are primarily intended for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other medical staff who are required to maintain current CPR certifications and skills.

How does the RQI system work?

The RQI system is based on frequent, short training sessions rather than lengthy annual courses. Healthcare providers use the RQI stations to practice CPR and receive real-time feedback on their technique. This feedback is then used to improve skills, and periodic assessments determine if the provider is meeting the required standards for CPR quality.

What kind of feedback does the RQI CPR station provide?

RQI CPR stations provide detailed, real-time feedback on multiple aspects of CPR, including:
Compression rate
Compression depth
Compression recoil
Hand placement
Ventilation quality

What are the benefits of using RQI CPR stations?

The primary benefits of RQI CPR stations include:

  • Real-time feedback to improve technique and performance
  • Increased retention of CPR skills due to frequent practice
  • Convenience of self-directed learning, allowing users to practice at their own pace and schedule
  • Improved patient outcomes because healthcare professionals maintain up-to-date, high-quality CPR skills
  • Cost-effectiveness by reducing the need for traditional full-day courses.

Is there a certification or credential associated with using RQI CPR stations?

Yes, after completing the required sessions and assessments, healthcare professionals typically receive certification or a credential that demonstrates their competence in CPR. This certification is valid for 2 years, after which they will need to complete additional RQI sessions.

How long does each RQI session take?

Each RQI session is designed to be quick, generally taking about 15-30 minutes to complete. The aim is to make training convenient and integrated into the workday.

What happens if a healthcare provider doesn’t meet the required CPR standards in an RQI session?

If a healthcare provider does not meet the minimum standards during an RQI session, the system will alert them to areas needing improvement. They can then make adjustments and continue practicing until they achieve the required performance level. RQI systems often include a summary of performance and recommendations for improvement.

Is the RQI CPR system accredited?

Yes, RQI programs are typically accredited by recognized bodies, such as the American Heart Association (AHA). This accreditation ensures that the training and certification offered through RQI CPR stations meet the necessary educational and quality standards.

How much does it Cost?

RQI AHA CPR at Mohave Community College is offered at $40 per student.
