Mohave Community College: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

DIVERSITY STATEMENT

Mohave Community College is committed to building a social and educational environment free of harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. This environment supports a rich diversity of our communities, students, employees, and the many points of view they bring to campus to enhance the quality of the educational experience at Mohave Community College. We envision each student and employee creating the future and engaging fearlessly in serving our communities. We acknowledge and value differences because they strengthen our teams and communities when we work and build together. We will continue to strive to build and promote inclusive and equitable access to successful educational outcomes and overall college experiences for all Mohave Community College students, and a workplace culture of equity and inclusivity on all campuses so everyone can work and live authentically.

GUIDING DEFINITIONS

  • DIVERSITY: The countless ways in which people differ, including the psychological, physical, cognitive, and social differences that occur among all individuals and groups. It is about understanding these differences and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of our many differences.
  • EQUITY: The quality of being fair and impartial.  Equitable practices are those in which each individual is provided the specific resources needed to have access to the same opportunities and  allowing them to achieve their desired outcome.
  • INCLUSION: The action or state of including or of being included within a group or structure. Inclusion is about leveraging diversity. It is about committing to pursuing deliberate efforts to make your organization a place where differences are welcomed, and diverse perspectives are sought out and respectfully considered
