MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College accommodation and testing centers manager, Michelle Martin presented at the 36th Annual Postsecondary Disability Training Institute. The conference is one of the premier national training events for disability services professionals nationwide.
Her presentation was about Mohave College’s Compassionate Care Model which helps the college support students facing temporary life crises, anything from bereavement and housing instability to hospitalization of dependents. The model helps create a compassionate pathway that keeps students on track toward completion instead of leaving them without a choice.
The model is a direct reflection of Mohave College’s Student Experience Statement and its commitment to a caring environment with seamless services that meet students’ academic and non-academic needs.
“Compassionate Care Model is empathy in action. It’s how we let our students know that we see them and that we understand life happens. That mind set is woven into everything the College does,” Martin said. “I’m so excited to share what our college has built over the past five years and inspire other institutions to envision what’s possible for their own students.”
Martin has dedicated over ten years to Mohave College, is a past recipient of the Ellen Licari Service to Students Award, and is part of a Center for Teaching and Learning team that shares a deep passion for supporting both students and faculty.
