MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College is expanding access to healthcare education by offering its phlebotomy certificate program at the Colorado City Campus, creating new opportunities for students to train for high-demand careers close to home.
Students can begin taking classes this fall semester, which starts Aug. 17.
The expansion marks an important step for the Colorado City community, allowing students to complete phlebotomy training locally while preparing for certification and employment in the growing healthcare field.
“This expansion reflects Mohave College’s commitment to meeting the health care needs of our communities,” said Holly Berebitsky, Director of Medical Assisting Programs. “By offering phlebotomy training in Colorado City, we are creating opportunities for local residents to enter a high-demand profession while helping health care employers develop a pipeline of qualified professionals. It’s a win for students, health care providers and the community as a whole.”
Phlebotomists play a critical role in patient care by collecting blood samples used to diagnose disease, monitor health conditions and support medical research. The program provides hands-on instruction in blood collection techniques, safety practices and patient interaction, equipping students with the skills needed for entry-level positions in hospitals, physician offices, laboratories and blood donation centers.
Students enrolled in the program gain real-world experience through classroom instruction, lab training and a required clinical externship, helping them build confidence and prepare for the workforce.
Offering the program in Colorado City increases access for residents who may have previously needed to travel to complete health care training. The expansion reflects the College’s commitment to meeting regional workforce needs and strengthening local healthcare pipelines.
