MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College is proud to announce Kelsey Curry as student speaker for the 2026 Commencement ceremony. Curry is a student on the Lake Havasu Campus and is working toward earning her Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education.
Curry decided to start her journey at Mohave because she wanted to show her son that setbacks don’t limit success. As a student, she was able to find the support she needed through her advisor, the Student Success Center tutors and professors.
“This experience helped me grow personally, better understand myself, and build the confidence to speak up for my needs,” Curry said.
Curry is a mother, first-generation college student, and will share her inspiring journey and words of encouragement with fellow graduates and guests. The overall message she’ll share is that every obstacle students face to get to graduation, is preparing them for the days ahead.
“If it were easy, everyone would do it. The struggle, the discipline, the uncomfortable moments, that’s what shapes you. Embrace the hard. Your future self is counting on it,” she said.
Obstacles didn’t stop Curry from reaching her goals. During her first semester, she faced academic challenges while adjusting to college and single mother caring for her son that was diagnosed with epilepsy. After a difficult start that resulted in academic probation, she found support from peers and perseverance led to a strong academic turnaround, earning honors recognition three times and getting better grades.
She decided to pursue a degree in education to make a difference. She knew she wanted to go into education since she was a little girl playing pretend as a teacher, and from seeing her first-grade teacher helping her and other students.
After earning her associate’s degree, she plans to stay at Mohave and earn her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Curry’s career goal is to become a teacher at the local school district, and eventually go into social work to help children and their families.
The 55th annual Mohave College Commencement ceremony will take place 3 p.m., Friday, May 15 at the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse, 3663 Bullhead Parkway. For more information about the ceremony, visit Mohave.edu/Graduation.
