MOHAVE COUNTY – Jameson Johnson, a senior at River Valley High School, began taking college classes during his sophomore year through the Mohave College Early College program.
Since then, he has earned seven welding certificates, two automotive certificates, an organizational management certificate and is on track to complete his Associate of Applied Science in CTE Organizational Management by the time he graduates high school.
The Early College program allows high school students to earn college credits while still in high school. Through partnerships with participating high schools many students receive free tuition, eliminating costs for families and helping students to build credits toward college degrees, certificates or future university pathways. Johnson also utilized the WAVE JTED program to complete his courses.
He decided to join the program at Mohave because it offered programs aligned with his interests and he was up for the challenge of learning detailed subjects. Since becoming a student here, he has not only developed as a student but also as a person.
“Mohave College is not only a place to learn but also a welcoming community where students can connect and communicate. The staff and faculty are friendly beyond compare and have always had positive relationships with my instructors and other students,” Johnson said.
As an Early College student, he’s participating fully in college life while still completing high school. He serves as Vice President of the Culinary Club at Mohave College and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
In his spare time, he enjoys reading, playing video games, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
After Mohave College he plans to attend a university to pursue a degree in robotics. His ultimate career goal is to earn all the necessary degrees and certifications to start his own technology business.
