MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College Esports reached a new milestone as it competed in its first-ever VALORANT league match through the National Junior Collegiate Athletics Association of Esports (NJCAAE).
The Bighorns Division 3 VALORANT team faced the Monroe College Mustangs in a best-of-three series. Mohave College went 0-2 in the match, but the team showed resilience and growth throughout the competition. After a challenging first game, the Bighorns came out strong in game two, building an early 7-2 lead before the Mustangs rallied to secure a 13-9 victory and take the match.
“Competing together in VALORANT for the first time was amazing fun and even though we lost we have only had a short time to practice as a team, but it still was close and looked promising,” said Tommy Kroeger, Mohave College Esports player.
VALORANT is a 5v5 tactical shooter that has remained popular since its release a few years ago, with gameplay often compared to Counterstrike and hero-style abilities similar to Overwatch. The team competes in the third tier of the NJCAAE VALORANT league against other colleges, and Mohave Esports provides a great opportunity for both students and community members to get involved. Division 1 and Division 2 teams are open to Mohave College students enrolled in at least 12 credits, while Division 3 is open to students and faculty at the college as well as any resident of Mohave County.
The Esports program continues to grow, providing competitive opportunities and building community through gaming and teamwork. For more information about Mohave College Esports, visit mohave.edu/esports/
