Mohave College has been named a winner of the 2025 Teledentistry Innovation Award, recognizing the groundbreaking use of teledentistry to expand access to dental care across northwestern Arizona. Past award recipients include renowned universities, such as Harvard and NYU.
The Mohave College Dental Hygiene program earned the distinction for its pioneering integration of teledentistry with its on-campus clinic, and outreach services to rural and underserved communities in Mohave County.
“This award highlights the incredible impact of our on-campus clinic and outreach to dentally underserved communities,” said Tracy Gift, Director of Dental Programs at Mohave College. “Our integration of teledentistry has not only expanded access to care but also demonstrated how technology can transform public health delivery in rural areas. It’s a proud moment for our team and a testament to the forward-thinking approach we’ve embraced.”
The college’s dental hygiene students and faculty use teledentistry technology to connect patients with supervising dentists remotely, allowing for comprehensive exams, consultations, and follow-ups that would otherwise require long-distance travel. The program has become a model for rural health innovation, blending classroom instruction, clinical training, and real-world experience to address local healthcare needs.
“This is a terrific honor for the College and a testament to the innovation and compassion of our dental hygiene team,” said Dr. Tim Culver, Interim President of Mohave College. “Their work embodies what we’re all about, using education and technology to improve lives and strengthen communities. We’re proud to see their leadership recognized on a national stage.”
The Teledentistry Innovation Awards, known as The Tellies, are now in their seventh year. They spotlight five national leaders annually who are reshaping the dental landscape through technology, education, and collaboration. Along with Harvard and NYU, past recipients have also included other universities, large dental organizations, and public health programs.
“The awards celebrate the changemakers who are redefining what’s possible in dental care,” said Brant Herman, Founder and CEO of MouthWatch, which hosts the Tellies. “The work being done at Mohave College demonstrates how innovation and compassion can combine to make lasting community impact.”
Gift will represent Mohave College at the awards ceremony on December 1, 2025, in New York City, where winners from across the country will be recognized for their contributions to the field.
