MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College and Nucor Steel hosted a Safe and Sound Safety Fair at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center as part of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Safe and Sound Week. The fair brought together industry leaders, safety experts, and community members for a day dedicated to safety awareness and training.

The event featured an open house atmosphere with interactive safety displays and information tables. Participants included Mohave College Health Professions programs such as EMS and Fire Science, NUCOR Steel’s Safety Department, Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health Voluntary Protection Program representatives, and several community business partners.

“It is very fitting that the first-ever event at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center be one focused on Safety because safety must be a core value of all that we do. Careers in the industrial sector can be very dangerous, and maintaining a culture of safety helps protect the employees and the company both through lives protected and in money saved,” said Jason Gee, Dean of Career and Technical Education.

Vendors showcased safety equipment and supplies, including First Due Fire and Cintas. Attendees also enjoyed a brief safety-focused presentation from experts. Participants were able to share ideas and build stronger safety partnerships.

Various Kingman Airpark employees participated in a “Stop the Bleed” training session led by Mohave College Health Professions instructors. This hands-on course equipped participants with life-saving emergency response skills.

This was the first event to be held at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center. The AMTC is meant to help meet workforce needs, prepare students for high-demand, high-skill jobs and encourage economic prosperity in the region. The AMTC is a 36,000 square-foot facility featuring a design lab, Simulated (SIM) and Virtual Reality (VR) lab, and an Innovation Space. Mohave College Career and Technical Education programs available at the AMTC are welding, HVAC, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Industrial Maintenance and basics of Manufacturing, Robotics operation and maintenance, and much more.
