MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College’s Community Education Division is now offering self-guided CPR Certificate testing that will allow students to maintain their certifications or hit the ground running in the healthcare field.

The Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) CPR stations are designated areas equipped with technology and mannequins to facilitate high-quality, hands-on CPR practice for healthcare providers. These stations include equipment for performing CPR as well as a feedback system that provides real-time performance metrics including compression depth, rate and hand position.

“MCC decided to use this for various reasons, including upholding its mission of serving our communities, empowering students to succeed through innovative pathways and quality education,” says Jackie Newman, Director of Healthcare Simulation. “These machines are designed to be user-friendly, with clear instructions and easy-to-understand feedback, even for people who are not highly trained in CPR. This makes them effective for both professionals and laypeople. Each RQI Session is designed to be quick, generally taking bout 15-30 minutes to complete. The aim is to make training convenient and integrated into the workday.”

Students will learn online and test at any of MCC’s five campuses in Bullhead City, 3400 Highway 95; Lake Havasu City, 1977 Acoma Blvd. West; North Mohave, 480 South Central; and Kingman, 1801 Detroit Ave., as well as the MCC Beale Street Center, 309 E. Beale St., in Downtown Kingman. The online component entails completion of the RQI 2025 Student Healthcare Provider Prep Assignment, which covers the basics of American Heart Association CPR. Once completed, head to any of the MCC locations listed to complete the hands-on portion.

Newman says this offering will also help individuals retain CPR skills over time, as they can practice regularly with the machine, getting personalized feedback and continually improving their technique. Many RQI machines collect data on CPR performance, allowing trainers or organizations to monitor and analyze the quality of resuscitation efforts. This data can help identify areas of improvement, track training progress, and ensure compliance with CPR standards.

“The RQI CPR machines provide real-time feedback during CPR, ensuring high-quality chest compressions,” Newman says. “This helps rescuers adjust their technique instantly, ensuring they meet the recommended depth, rate and recoil for effective compressions.”

So, who should take note of this new opportunity?

“The RQI CPR stations are primarily intended for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and other medical staff who are required to maintain current CPR certifications and skills. This includes students who are entering a designated healthcare program.”

The accompanying certificate meets the requirements to provide CPR at the basic life support level. BLS is a requirement for many healthcare jobs to stay current and up to date on CPR guidelines and skills. Healthcare professionals must renew their BLS certificate every two years.
