MCC Lake Havasu students awarded Coca-Cola scholarships

MOHAVE COUNTY – Adam Romano, a Mohave Community College – Lake Havasu campus student, has been named a 2022 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Romano is a Fine Arts student at MCC and an All-Arizona Academic Team member. He plans to transfer to Arizona State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in museum studies.

“I’m extremely honored and appreciative of the recognition that is being placed upon me by becoming a Gold Scholar on the 2022 Coca-Cola Academic Team. This award will continue to reinforce my commitment to academia,” Romano said. “As I keep moving toward my educational goals this award will constantly be a reminder that I must try as hard as I can to learn, grow and exceed in all my classes.”

Romano added that this is an award is tremendously beneficial as it will be put toward books and art supplies so it can continue his educational growth in fine art, and help alleviate financial burdens.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion.

Brooke Prochaska, a Surgical Technology student, was named a 2022 New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar, sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation, and will receive a $1,250 scholarship that she can use toward finishing her associate’s degree to help her transition into the workforce by paying for any supplies or certifications. Prochaska was the top scoring student in the state and the only one to receive the award.

“This award means so much to me and makes me feel as though I’m headed in the right direction with my career. I plan on using this scholarship to finish my associate’s degree and pay for my board exams,” Prochaska said. “This takes a lot of weight off my shoulders since I’m unable to work full time while traveling out of town for clinicals and I’m extremely grateful for this amazing opportunity.”

Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service.
