MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College would like to congratulate North Mohave campus student, Brenda Carrillo, for being selected to be part of the 2022 All Arizona Academic Team.
All Arizona Academic Team members receive a full tuition scholarship to any public university in Arizona after they graduate MCC. The scholarship covers resident tuition for 10 consecutive undergraduate semesters or 60 credits for the fall and spring semesters.
“I was in awe but I felt extremely honored to receive this opportunity to continue my learning after graduation it still feels too good to be true,” Carrillo said.
She is a nursing student and decided to attend MCC after being motivated by a few coworkers who previously attended.
Carrillo said her favorite thing about the nursing program at MCC has been learning about the human body. She has also enjoyed her microbiology class where she learned how to create her own compost for her plants.
MCC always strives to help its students and make sure they have a successful educational journey, and Carrillo knows she can find it at MCC.
“The college provided me with an environment where teachers and staff want to see me succeed and have provided me with so many opportunities as a student,” she said.
Carrillo is part of Phi Theta Kappa – Beta Eta Tau North Mohave chapter. She enjoys being part of an organization that provides scholarship opportunities and being able to connect with other students.
Carrillo said she appreciates getting involved and helping the community where she attends school.
Being a first-generation college student, her family had a hard time relating to her daily struggles while attending school. She added high school really prepared her to get into college but did face challenges when it came to juggle working and going to school.
Carrillo is from Mesquite, Nevada and graduated from Virgin Valley High School. Carrillo works as a full-time hemodialysis technician.
After completing her degree at MCC, Carrillo plans to attend Arizona State University where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She eventually plans to become a nurse practitioner so she can help others.
On her free time, Carrillo, 28, likes to watch romance comedies, care for her house plants, and playing the Nintendo Switch with her son. She also enjoys exploring different types of foods and cuisine.
