MOHAVE COUNTY – Now is the time to apply to be a student in the Mohave Community College Surgical Technology program. The application window to join the 2022 fall semester class just opened.
A surgical technologist is a key member of the surgery team They prepare instrumentation supplies for each surgical procedure and assist the surgeon throughout the duration of the surgery.
“You can learn something new every day, it’s the most exciting job in the hospital and it’s never boring,” said Julie Clifford, MCC Director of Surgical Technology. “I worked as a surgical technologist for 25 years and I now enjoy sharing my passion and experience with my students.”
In 2021, 100% of the program graduates passed the national board exam on the first attempt.
According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, students graduating from the MCC program are entering a career field in which they can earn up to an average of $73,110 annually. Prior graduates have finished the program debt free by receiving Pell Grants, scholarships and other forms of tuition assistance through MCC.
The program is based at the MCC – Lake Havasu City campus, and draws students from as far away as Prescott and Yuma. For the first two semesters students are required to be in class two days a week.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in cooperation with the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology. The program provides the knowledge necessary to take the national certification examination for surgical technology.
