MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Neal Campus Kingman Student Activities Council (SAC) decided to give back to those less fortunate. Students put together care packages for the homeless.
Students made a total of 48 care packages which contained a backpack, thermal blanket, knitted hat, cold weather gloves, socks, hand warmers, Chapstick, a rain parka and a hygienic bag. The packages were distributed to the Cornerstone Mission in Kingman and homeless camps around the region.
Hakon Swenhaugen, MCC Veterans Student Support Specialist and Veterans Club advisor, worked in conjunction with the Veterans Club members and SAC to make this project happen, and Michelle Baratta, Neal campus administrative assistant, gathered the items for the packages.
“Students being a part of this project helps them see the other side of life that many don’t know or don’t think of on a regular basis because their everyday needs are met,” Swenhaugen said. “It also helps students come together to work with each other to provide for those who live in their community that are in need.”
Swenhaugen said they hope to continue this project in the semesters to come. Packages were also distributed to homeless on the streets and other areas in the city.
