My name is Layla Powell and I am glad to introduce myself as the Fall 2018 BHC campus Multimedia Reporter.
I am a current student at Mohave Community College and have been attending since Fall 2015. I am enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program and looking to graduate in the Summer of 2020. Some of my hobbies include: binge-watching Netflix television shows, listening to music from the 90’s and early 2000’s, and reading novels.
I have two clumsy dogs. Axle is a mixed mutt and likes to chase balls for a living; while Mia, my pit-bull, prefers to just chase Axle.
I have lived in the tri-state area for more than 16 years and in that time I have been able to watch the town grow tremendously. Similar to most high-school students, I never quite knew where I wanted to go to college or what I wanted to pursue for a career, thankfully during my senior year that changed for me.
I attended River Valley High School and lucky for me, there came a day where the senior class was bused over to Mohave Community College for a career exploration day! It was highly satisfying learning about each degree option and very educational, and it was then that I knew where I would attend. A lot of the students were on the fence about what they planned on doing after high school and, like me, had most of it figured out by the end of the day.
I just so happened to chose Dental Hygiene after weighing the pros and cons between dental and radiology. Both programs are fantastic, but something about being a hygienist spoke to me. I always had positive dental experiences as a younger child, although I am aware that not a lot of children got the same treatment or preventative care as I did. That’s probably why I wanted to be part of a career that could make a child’s dental visit not as scary as they seem at first. So, here I am now on my Path to Success with MCC, studying hard for the Dental Hygiene program.
How do you prepare for an upcoming exam? What are your current study habits? Do you prefer to study in a group or alone? Do you have a success story or MCC story on the BHC campus you think might be newsworthy? Send in your replies to lpowell@mohave.edu.
