A lot of students are finishing finals and looking forward to summer break, but it’s also a great time to sign up for university transfer courses at MCC, especially for those looking to get a 4 year degree and save money.
MCC is a great place to start knocking out the Arizona General Education Curriculum, AGEC, credits, which will transfer directly to MCC’s university partners.
“Students in our region will not only get a jump start on getting these classes under their belt, they’re going to save thousands of dollars by getting AGEC done right here at home,” said MCC President Dr. Michael Kearns.
Taking classes at MCC costs $81 per credit hour. By comparison a student would pay anywhere between $490 to $633 per credit hour at one of the state universities, according to the university websites. Students taking an AGEC course requirement at MCC may then have it transferred to a university and save around thousand dollars on one class alone.
MCC has many classes this summer that are included in the AGEC transfers, such as Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, Education, Math and more.
“It’s important to many students keep up their grade point average in classes, so this is a good time to take a course that may seem difficult, so they can focus exclusively on that class during the summer,” said Kearns.
Students who successfully complete the AGEC at MCC will have all those courses transfer as a block to ASU, NAU and UA. If you complete it with a 2.5 GPA or better, you will be automatically guaranteed admission to ASU, NAU, and UA.
“Summer classes provide great opportunities for students to get ahead in their degree program, in a shortened amount of time,” said MCC Dean of Student Services Ana Masterson. “In eight weeks, students can complete a course that can take up to 15 weeks during the fall or spring semester.”
It’s also an opportunity to take classes that are popular during the Fall and Spring semesters. “Science classes are some of those that fill up quickly during the other semesters, so now is a great time to sign up for them because we still have open seats available for summer,” said Dr. Paula Norby, dean of instruction.
Students looking to get started on a career path faster, might want to sign up for the new adaptation of the Auto Collision Repair program, which starts in July. The class is now designed as a learn at your own pace model. This also means people in the auto collision repair industry can use their experience to quickly earn credits toward a degree or certificate, which could help them with career advancement.
“We also offer business training, so it’s great for people in the industry who are thinking about running their own shop,” said Richie Mitten, MCC auto collision repair program director.
Registration for summer and fall classes is happening now. Classes start June 5. Fall classes start August 28.
