Hardware/Software Requirements for Online Courses

MCC uses the ANGEL Learning System for online courses. The listed hardware and software are the minimum and recommended requirements to work with the ANGEL System. Always have a back-up plan for technology glitches.

Operating System: Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8
(NOTE: Beginning spring 2014, CIS courses will be using Office 2013 which is only compatible with Windows 7 & 8 operating systems)

MAC OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7
*Currently, operating systems on some mobile devices (iPads, tablets, etc) are not officially supported, such as Windows RT and MAC iOS. However, most features of ANGEL do work but a secondary computer option is highly recommended.
RAM: 1 GB (2 GB or higher recommended)
Free Disk Space: 20 GB (100 GB or higher drive recommended)
CPU: PC: 1.5 GHz or higher (2GHz or higher recommended – or Dual Core Processor)
MAC: Power Macintosh or higher
Browsers: ANGEL 8.0 SP8
  • Certified: Fully tested and supported.
  • Compatible: Partially tested, but should function properly.
  • Unsupported: Either impossible or not tested.

Supported Browser Information:

Supported browser versions are based on the vendor's latest supported version and the most recent version released at the time of the current Service Pack Development.

  • Firefox: Due to the auto-update feature of Firefox, support is based on the version available at the time of testing.
    • Final Release Channel: The current release of Mozilla/Firefox browsers as delivered by the browser update feature at the time of current Service Pack Development.
    • Extended Support Release (ESR): The Extended Support Release of Mozilla Firefox as delivered by the Vendor. More information available at: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/.
  • Google Chrome: Due to the auto-update feature of Chrome, support is based on the version available at the time of testing.
    • Stable Channel: The current release of Chrome as delivered by the browser's built-in update feature at the time of current Service Pack Development.
  • Internet Explorer (IE):
    • IE 8 and IE 9 are supported in Standards Mode and Compatibility Mode.
    • IE 10 - Metro is not supported. For Windows 8 and Windows RT IE 10 must be run in ‘Desktop Mode’. If the address bar is at the bottom of the screen, you are in Metro mode.

Connection: Broadband Connection is needed. High-speed DSL or cable recommended for graphic intensive courses. Dial-up (56K) is NOT recommended as it is too slow to view videos.
Other Hardware: Headset with microphone is required for Collaborate and Voice Thread.
Plugins:

The following free plugins may be required and should be up-to-date according to your particular operating system. Click on the name to download the latest version.

Software:

The use of 'freeware' such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice is acceptable in all courses EXCEPT Microsoft Office courses (which are generally CIS courses). Technical support for OpenOffice and LibreOffice can be found on the product's website.

Acceptable written assignment submission formats include .doc, .docx, .rtf or .odt. CIS courses may require specific formats.

Some courses require the use of specific software programs.

Microsoft Office courses currently require MS Office 2010.
