Mohave Community College
Mohave Community College is dedicated to lifelong learning; if you are just graduating from high school, embarking upon a new career, or are working as a seasoned professional - MCC has educational opportunities to fit your schedule and needs.
General Education (Liberal Studies/General Education core) - For every Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, there is an embedded core of courses that allows easier transfer to any of the three state universities in Arizona. This core is called the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC). The AGEC has three possibilities for transfer students: AGEC-B is designed for Business or Computer Information Systems students, AGEC-S is designed for Mathematics or Science students, and the AGEC-A is designed for all other transfer students. If you do not know what you will major in when you attend a university, you should probably take the AGEC-A as there are a broader number of courses to explore.
Associate of Arts - Liberal Arts - The MCC Associate of Arts degree is designed to enable a student to transfer to a four-year college or university. The MCC Associate of Arts degree is designed to enable a student to transfer to a four-year college or university. It gives students the opportunity to earn a well-rounded education while studying general subjects or choosing a particular area of emphasis.

A variety of emphases are listed in the “Liberal Arts & Sciences” section. Also, you may choose to create your own emphasis (with 15 credits from one subject area, not including ENG 101, ENG 102 and the math course used to fulfill the AGEC requirement). You may also have an associate of arts degree with no emphasis. For information about emphases, please see your campus academic advisor.
A few words about a degree in science: There are two ways in which a student can earn and emphasis in science. The first is by getting an AA (which would include an AGEC-A) with an emphasis in science. The second is by getting an AS (which includes and AGEC-S) with an emphasis in science. If you plan to major in any field in science or math, or in any pre-med field, you should get an AS with the AGEC-S. The AS requires higher levels of math and more science core courses, which better prepare you for transfer. This program of study is found in the Science section of the MCC catalog or on this webpage for AS degrees. (See the links on the right.)
