Mohave Community College

These are frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Technology Support Services.

ACTIVE DIRECTORY
The college's computer network is set up using Active Directory, and your Active Directory password is used to log into the MCC computers.  How can you change your Active Directory password? This can be done from any MCC computer as follows:

  • Log into the computer using your Active Directory username and password.
  • Once you are logged in, press CTRL + ALT + DEL (together) once.
  • When you see the Windows Security window, click "Change Password..."
  • Follow instructions to enter old password, then new password & confirm.
  • Click OK to save changes.

Important: This will change both your Active Directory password and ALSO your email password (they are synchronized and will always match).

ANTIVIRUS PROTECTION
To help prevent the spread of computer viruses, Mohave Community College desktop computers have AVG Anti-Virus software installed. This program receives automatic updates on a daily basis in order to protect against the latest viruses that may be encountered. In addition, email messages on the MCC email server are scanned for viruses and spam. If you have any questions about preventing and/or treating computer viruses at MCC, click here for more information. Or, you can call the Help Desk at 866-749-8239 for assistance.

OFFICE 2007
TSS has upgraded all Open Lab and employee computers to MS Office 2007, the latest version. However, you may need to communicate with people outside the college who have an older version of Office.  The following info should help:

  • If you have Office 2007, save your file as the older version (Save As, then choose Save As Type: Word 97-2003 Document). This will ensure that the file can be opened by others who still have the previous version of Office.

If you are off-site and have Office 2003, you can open an Office 2007 document by using a free file converter (click here to install).

 USERNAME CHANGES

If you change your name you may wish to have your username updated to reflect this new information.  Since all of your accesses are tied to your username, this is a somewhat complicated process.  As a first step, you will need to formally notify Registration or Human Resources of the name change.  Click here to see the remaining steps that must be taken to migrate your accesses from the old username to the new one.
