Mohave Community College

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to participate in one of these programs, the student must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements as set by the institution:

  • The student must be enrolled for and maintain a minimum of six (6) credit hours throughout the semester.  (All coursework must be taken for credit.  (No Audited, Enrichment, or Workshop courses can be counted toward the minimum required hours).
  • All students must apply for financial aid using a FAFSA.
  • The student must be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen. Proof of citizenship or eligible visa status must be provided to the Financial Aid Office prior to employment.

There are two on-campus employment programs available to MCC students

  • Federal College Work-Study (FCWS) The Federal Work-study (FCWS) program is a federally funded, campus-based program that provides job opportunities to students who are eligible to participate in need-based financial aid programs.
    • In addition, it provides an opportunity to campus employers to hire valuable students at a reduced cost to their budget.
    • The FCWS program pays 75% of the eligible students' wages; the institution pays the remaining 25%.
    • The students may earn up to their total eligibility only during the session for which the award is made.  The students' award letters will provide them with a source document that shows proof of FCWS to a prospective employer.  It is the employer’s responsibility during the interview process, to determine if a student is eligible or not, if that is a requirement for employment.
    • Community Service - A certain percentage of FCWS is mandated by DOE and set aside for Community Service positions.  These positions work within the community rather than serve the college alone.  Examples of “Community Service” positions at MCC include Library information services, America Reads, Computer Center, and G.E.D. proctor’s assistant.
  • Institutional Work-Study (IWS) - The Institutional Work-Study (IWS) program is a campus-funded program that provides job opportunities to students who may not be eligible to participate in need-based financial aid programs.
