Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an online course?

An online course is held between 80% and 100% online. Some online courses (i.e. math) require you to come on-campus for testing, orientation or presentations. Be sure to check the course requirements.

  • What is a hybrid course?

A hybrid course meets at least 50% of the time in the classroom. The other part of the course is held online.

  • How much time should I expect to spend on an online course?

You should expect to spend the same amount of time on an online course as you would attending and studying for an on-campus course. IMPORTANT! Be prepared to commit 6 – 9 hours per week to studies for every 3-credit course. More time is needed when taking 8 or 12-week course.

  • What kind of technology is needed to take an online course?

Any computer capable of running recent versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari can utilize ANGEL, our learning management system. ANGEL requires a few plug-insto run properly. A list of these plug-ins can be found on the ANGEL page under System Check. You will also need a broadband internet connection. Dial-up will severely hamper your ability to use ANGEL.

  • How do I register for an online course?

    Please refer to online registration.

  • How do I get an email account?

You should be automatically provided with an MCC email account, student ID and student username when you become an MCC student. This account should be used for all MCC related email communication. There is also course mail in ANGEL. Course mail allows you to communicate with your instructor and other students only within the course.

  • When do I get an ANGEL account?

You should be automatically provided with an ANGEL account 24-48 hours after you become an MCC student and register for your first course.

  • When do my online classes begin and end?

All MCC online courses begin on the first official day of class for the MCC semester and session. Students should be able to access their course as of 8am the first day of classes. Please check the MCC course schedule for the exact date. Online students are expected to login to ANGEL on the first day of class and at least 3-5 days per week. When you login to your online course, you will see the expectations and deadlines for the course. Failure to log into the course during the first two weeks may result in receiving a WR (administrative withdraw grade) for the course and being disabled in the course. MCC's online courses are not self-paced. Each instructor has a schedule with assignment due dates that must be met.
