MCC partners with area fire service agencies to provide fire academy training and college credits for those who want a career in fire science.

As a Fire Science student, you will learn practical techniques for fighting fires and also study the theories of fire fighting techniques. MCC's Fire Science programs cover a wide range of classes designed to prepare you for entry-level fire fighter positions and for advanced or promotion opportuities in fire services. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science is designed to provide you with the general education and technical training to succeed as a fire service professional. MCC now offers these choices:

  • AAS in Fire Science - The Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science is designed for the student who expects to further his or her career in the fire service or related fields. The Fire Science program offers students command development and continuing education courses.
  • The Fire Fighter Certificate is designed to either prepare a student for a career in the fire service or to enhance the knowledge and skills of an individual who is already employed as a fire fighter. It is a 21- to 23-credit-hour program.
  • The Driver/Operator Certificate is designed to prepare a student for advancement within the fire service to the position of driver/operator and/or engineer. It is a 40- to 42-credit-hour program.
  • The Fire Officer Certificate is designed to prepare a student for company and officer positions within the fire service. It is a 52- to 54-credit-hour program.

The certificates serve as a step in the student's path to an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science.

Mohave Community College’s Fire Science program, which mirrors the latest national qualification standards, is designed for fire service professionals who want to enhance their technical competencies or increase their prospect for career advancement. Graduates of the program will have a "theoretical core" on which they can continue to build throughout their lives.
