Mohave Community College

Oct. 2007 Student Nurse Association of Arizona Conference in Tucson.Once again the nursing students of the Mohave Community College District represented their schools proudly at the annual Student Nurses Association of Arizona convention.

This year's event was held on Saturday, October 13, at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel in Tempe, AZ. The organization, better known as SNAAz, attracted nearly 500 undergraduate nursing students from all over the state. The theme to this year's event was "The Many Faces of Nursing." This year’s convention also brought a wide variety of  speakers including Anne McNamara RN, PhD ~ Keynote, Joyce Benjamin, AzNA, Jeff Landau, AzNA, Louise Ryan, Army, Chris Wingard, Patient Care Manager, and a Representative from Hurst Review Services.

Speaking topics ranged from nursing board review study sessions, Nursing careers with the Army, and a key note address on managing a successful and diverse nursing future. Representatives from a variety of healthcare institutions around the state including the Mayo Clinic, Tucson Medical Center, University Medical Center, Sun Health, and Northern Arizona Healthcare also attended and had booths set up to provide information to students regarding future employment.

Vendors from Academic institutions such as Northern Arizona University and the University of Utah were there to provide students information on Bachelor's and Master's degree nursing programs.

This year’s event was an especially proud and successful event for the nursing students of MCC. Not only did they have 25 participants and three instructors attend, but for the first time in MCC history, four students were elected to Arizona Student Nurses Association Board of Directors. David Conahey of the Bullhead City Campus, Legislative Affairs Director, Heather Temple of the Bullhead City Campus, Director of Nominations, Julie Davis, of the Bullhead City Campus, Breakthrough to Nursing Director, and Samantha Simpson, of the Lake Havasu City Campus, Director at Large. Congratulations to all four of you!

All in all it was a fantastic experience filled with informative speakers and a great opportunity for MCC nursing students to network with other students from Arizona Nursing Schools as well as an opportunity for them to meet with potential future employers.

-David Conahey, Nursing II Student, BHC
