Mohave Community College

I don’t know what I want to major in, what should I do? Work toward completion of the Arizona General Education Curriculum-Arts (AGEC-A) core requirements, and explore a variety of subjects to find out what interests you. Talk to your professors or make appointments with professors from the faculty list to discuss their subject areas.

Who should take the AGEC-S?  Only those students who know for sure that they want to go on to a university and major in an area of science or math need to work toward the AGEC-Science core.

Who should take the AGEC-B? Only those students who know for sure that they want to major in Business or Computer Information Systems should take the AGEC-Business core.

When should I contact a university advisor?  As soon as you know that you want to obtain a Bachelor’s degree, you should contact an advisor from the university you plan to attend.  Some things you need to ask are:

  • What are their deadlines and costs for submitting an application?
  • What prerequisites do I need to fulfill before I transfer?
  • Do I need to apply for the program as well as the university itself?

I don’t want to go to a university, do I need to get an AA?  It depends on what you want to do in life. While many businesses do not require an Associate’s Degree, many will pay you more because you have it. Furthermore, the more you learn and the more skills you acquire to help you work with people, computers, and problem solving, the more valuable you become as an employee. Even more important, that higher education may help you fulfill your own goals, develop your self-worth, and know more about the world and your ability to find your own way in it.
