Gateway Program

MCC's Gateway program is for high school students who know it will take more than a high school diploma to have the good life, but who don’t feel ready for college classes. Gateway will help you prepare for the challenges of college by building your confidence, team-building skills, academic success and study/test-taking skills.

Each campus will offer the “Gateway to College Success” course, which combines math, reading and student success skills in an individualized lab setting. Faculty will work with students in the lab and tutors will be available. Individualized advising will help each student identify a pathway to a degree at MCC. At the end of the Gateway program, student learning will be assessed using the Compass exam, at no extra cost.

This year, the program begins June 2, 2014, and runs for five weeks in Bullhead City, Kingman and North Mohave and eight weeks in Lake Havasu City.

Program Requirements

  1. Documents showing completion of the necessary high school coursework to be classified as a junior, senior or 2014 graduate at the time of the program
  2. Cumulative high school GPA of 2.2 or higher
  3. Letter from a counselor, teacher, coach or similar professional familiar with the applicant’s academic background recommending your admission into the program
  4. Have not taken dual enrollment courses at your high school

Each student admitted will be given a scholarship which will significantly offset the cost of the two classes – the “Gateway to Student Success” course and a selected college credit course. The exact amount of scholarship awards will depend on the number of students participating in the program, the balance will be paid by the student.
