There are five (5) sections in the GED exam: 1) Writing Skills; 2) Social Studies; 3) Science; 4) Reading Skills; and 5) Mathematics.

These sections are timed. The exam process will take up to seven and one-half  (7 1/2) hours. You will be given short breaks during the exam session.

  • The fee for the GED exam is $65.00 (cash or money order only, no personal checks) and must be paid when you register for the exam. If you are required to re-take an exam section, the cost is $15.00 per section (cash or money order only), payable when the section is re-taken. (If you pay with a money order, it must be made payable to the state examiner, not the college.)
  • Visually challenged examinees may make arrangements to use a Large Print Edition of the exam. These arrangements must be made when the examinees register.
  • Because a waiting room is not available, please DO NOT bring your spouse, children or friends/guests with you. Please make any necessary transportation arrangements before you come to the exam site.

Note:  This is the GED exam applicants responsibility:

  1. You are required to have two (2) forms of identification with you at registration. (One form must be an Official Photo  I.D., passport, drivers license, state I.D. card, etc.) Acceptable forms of photo ID are: a current drivers license, state-issued ID card, valid passport, military ID, other forms of government ID (foreign, domestic, tribal), college ID with name, address, date of birth, signature and photograph. Secondary acceptable ID can be certified copy of birth certificate, social security card, credit cards with a photo and bank cards with a photo.
  2. If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you must also bring with you:
    • A statement from the last school you attended certifying that you have officially withdrawn from school, and
    • A notarized statement from your parent or legal guardian giving you permission to take the GED exam.

GED Test Accommodations

The GED Testing Program provides accommodations to candidates who have disabilities and is committed to compliance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Accommodations are made for candidates who have diagnosed physical, mental, sensory, or learning disabilities and can provide appropriate documentation from a qualified professional of their impairment and its effect on their ability to take the GED Tests under standard conditions. Students requesting accommodations for the GED Test should make arrangements to meet with the GED Chief Examiner at the testing site where they are planning to take the test to obtain the necessary guidelines and paperwork in advance of the testing date.
